Repair, Restoration & Cleaning

Recognized as one of America's indigenous crafts, more and more people are becoming aware of antique hooked rugs. No longer considered just a rustic floor covering made from scraps of leftover material or recycled clothing, many are considered to be wonderful examples of folk art and are now eagerly sought out and collected by many. These colorful rugs with their muted colors and often striking designs bring life and warmth to any room in a home.
Perhaps you've held onto a vintage hooked rug made by a family member and the edges are now fraying, maybe somewhere along the line a family pet decided this was his "bed" and it is now soiled, or a cat decided to use your rug as a "scratching post." Or perhaps you went to an antiques shop and fell in love with the colors and design in an old rug, but upon closer inspection you found the edges had frayed badly and there was even a hole or two in it.
Fortunately many of these problems, though not all, can be addressed. Repair services include: mending holes and restoring with appropriate fiber/material, careful hand cleaning, edge binding (several types available) and backing material. Every effort is made to match original colors as closely as possible.

Finishing

If you have an unfinished hooked rug that was started years ago, which you would like to have completed, that is another service that I offer.

Commissions & Replications

If you have a rug that is "beyond hope,"  that you wish to have replicated because of sentimental attachment  or a unique design, I may be able to help. The size and colors can be adjusted to your needs and tastes.
In addition, I'm always working on my own designs and hooked rugs and accessories. Commissions are always welcomed. Contact me at [email protected] or call 802-431-5416 at our home and studio in Randolph, VT.

And More . . .

I often am asked to appraise hooked rugs. Although I will be happy to give you my personal opinion based on 40 years of experience creating and restoring them, I do not offer appraisals.
Because of the varied nature of my work, it is important to communicate with you either directly, by email: [email protected] or by phone: 802-431-5416. Pictures are always a big help!
Remember -- properly cared for a hooked rug can last for generations.
